The Zafa Collective was founded upon the idea that classical music should be inclusive and accessible both in terms of programming and performance, and actively seeks music from outside the canon of Western art music and from a wide variety of aesthetics. Now in their second season, Zafa is a Sponsored Artist of High Concept Labs, and has premiered works by composers including Michal Massoud, Theo Chandler, Connor Singh Vanderbeek, Erin Cameron, and Derek Tywoniuk. The Collective has worked closely with numerous other composers, including Ellen Ruth Harrison, Eliza Brown, Roger Zare, and Sato Matsui, and has performed throughout Chicago in a wide range of venues. This season’s collaborations include the Chicago premiere of Laura Kaminsky’s chamber opera As One with Chicago Fringe Opera as well as programs with the Chinese Fine Arts Society and the Poetry Foundation.
